Connolly’s Red Mills Master Series :
With only one more qualifier and the final left of the Connolly’s Red Mills Master Series a number of dedicated regional members have been chasing league placing’s for the last number of weeks travelling the length and breath of the country.

There are 9 legs to this league with the final taking place towards the end of August in Mullingar. This league is open to Intermediate ,Advanced Intermediate, Open and Advanced Open riders.

Intermediate League
Francis Flanagan and Yukon Don from Cheval are currently lying 3rd in the league on 20 points having secured a win at both Kill International and Boswell. Killossery’s Louise Lynn & Mr.X also picked up a 2nd place at Boswell’s Qualifier.

Advanced Intermediate League
After Cheval’s Laura Carrick picking up a 4th place at the national showjumping classes this now helps her secure 2nd place in the league, with the final qualifying round this weekend at Tattersalls hosted by Cheval. Killossery’s Brian Cassidy who can be seen on the hunt chase circuit and also the riding club circuit is currently holding both 3th & 4th league spots with Versace biscuit & Whitetree Legend. Brian wasn’t able to make the trip to the National Showjumping Championships to help him climb further up the league table, but all could change this weekend at Tatts. Both Brian & Laura are currently dominating this league and it’s great to see the regional flag flying high.

Open & Advanced Open League
In this class we also have two very busy riders with Killossery’s Orla Cassidy & Versace biscuit currently lying 3rd and fellow club member Yvonne Layng & Renoir NW lying 4th. Yvonne did secure a placing at the National Showjumping Championships but with her 2nd mount Winston which now means they will move up the league table. Orla was not able to make the trip to the Nationals but fingers crossed both riders will be in the placing’s this weekend.

Report from Boyneside Riding Clubs Cross Jump :
On the 19th June Boyneside Riding Club held their annual cross jump competition. There was a couple of new editions to the course this year at Brian & Jean Smith's course at Piperstown, Drogheda which has just added an indoor arena and newly surfaced outdoor to it's facilities. The introduction of new steps and a coffin in the Adv.Inter caused no problems at all aswell as the famous Piperstown jeeps moving after the steps again caused no problem, with the water still being the boogie fence of the day for the Intermediate & Adv.Primary classes. The last show jumping fence which wings supported two large Panda's raised a few horses’ eyebrows but jumped very well. Heather Camblin kept things moving throughout the day as always judging the SJ phase. The winner of the classes is those that finish on the lease penalties and closest to the optimum time, involves a lot of guessing and skills for some of the lower grades who are not allowed to wear a timing device.

Boyneside XJump 2011

The first class of the day was the Sullivan Property Consultants Adv.Inter/Open. Unfortunately no Open riders decided to tackle the course so it was Adv.Inter's only. With 6 entries 1st place went to Pauric Grehan finishing on just 2 time penalties. 2nd place was Michael Maher from Abbeylands on Miss Anorce whom was 2nd in this class last year whom finished on 16 time penalties. Riders in this class got a bit caught up with the optimum time and were mostly too fast.

Sarah Hennessy

In the Equine Paper Bedding B Class for Adv. Inter - Advanced Open riders who can compete over the intermediate track for a number of reasons - loss of nerve, young horse, green horse, old horse etc. attracted a good number of competitors . this class seems to be unique to the North East region 1st place went to Jennifer Dawson and Mr.Snowman from Kilronan. Jennifer who has collected quite a number of 1st's over the years at the Boyneside X-Jump finished on 7 time penalties. 2nd Place went to Martin O'Brien from the Fingal Club on Seabreeze.

Sarah Richardson

In the Equine Paper Bedding Intermediate class it was neck in neck in terms of time and penalties for a number of competitors. 1st place went to Sara Burke from Milestone Lodge riding William. Sara won this class last year. 2nd place was jointly held between Katy Davidson from Kilrainy & Ciara Geraghty from Summer Hill both finishing on exactly the time penalties as they both went round in exactly the same optimum times picking up just 8 penalties.

In the Hennessy Advanced Primary class kindly sponsored by Fergus Hennessy, Sarah Richardson was first on Red Square 8. Three competitors finished on a total of 0 penalties and it was down to who was closest to the optimum time. Sarah was closest to the Optimum time by 1 second so took 1st, 2nd went to Sheena Kinsella from Castle Hill and 3rd last year's winner Yvonne Hughes from Killossery.

X-Jump competitions is the only time that Primary riders can compete cross country and it was great to see new primary riders compete in this class. This class sponsored by ROS International was dominated by the host club Boyneside taking 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Sarah Killeen was 1st, Robert Kenny 2nd & Joanne Corrigan 3rd. Robert & Joanne has a very successful 1st riding club festival last weekend.

Joanne Corrigan

In the team competition where clubs simply nominate 3 members and the results are counted at the end of the day, 1st place went to Kilrainy & 2nd a mixed team of Boyneside/Kilronan members.

The day was a huge success and the weather was on our side :)
